KICK THE CAFFEINE

After meeting with the graphics students and finally having the visuals done for our brand, we then had to sit down as a group and work on our creative concept.  Mostly focussing on our print and video campaign, we couldn't believe how quickly this part of the project had come around!

The first idea for our print campaigns was focussed around hydration, we wanted to fill a balloon with water and photograph it popping over the skin, after deliberating this idea we felt it would be more in keeping with a moisturising brand.

Our finalised idea was based around the key aspects of our brand, the first image will feature a balloon filled with powdered dye and the slogan ‘Release your Rhythm’. The second is coffee beans being smashed by a hammer or weight and the slogan ‘Kick the Caffeine. The final campaign will be a lemon being squeezed by a wrench into the beaker, this embodies the citrus notes and refreshing nature of our tonic, the slogan will be, ‘Zone your Zing.

TOM FORD: IN THE NUDE

After a relaxing 2 weeks off from the world of fashion and 9 am lectures, today was my first day back and i’m so relieved to be back in the swing of things. Never did I ever think I would say how boring it is having nothing to do!

Our first seminar was an interesting one as we were introduced to our new module of work.  FASH10106, will this be a good one?

Our first task of the module was to bring in 20 fragrance advertisement tear out sheets, we then sat in our groups and discussed the pro’s and con’s of the most successful campaign of our choice. My group chose Tom Ford’s new campaign staring Cara Delevingne showcasing the fragrance, Black Orchid.  We found his ad promoted the brand successfully, with a strong theme of sensuality running throughout whilst still remaining in keeping with the humour and originality of the brand.  The purple hues running throughout the print represent luxury and wealthy alongside sexuality, this is then exaggerated through the nude figure, showing off all of her desirable curves.

After finishing the seminar feeling like my knowledge of fragrance advertisements had risen, I then came home and started researching further into the world of Tom Ford.
This is a brand I had rarely picked up on in the past in terms of their fragrances, although after seeing other campaigns i’m baffled as to how I managed to miss them?! Never before have I seen so many naked bodies being used in such a different way, who knew they could never get boring…

The risqué nature alongside the humour and kitsch is present in every single ad and allows each one to remain in keeping with the strong brand identity, I think its safe to say that Mr Ford isn’t shy of controversy!
Happy Monday

ALL THINGS BALMAIN

My colour story mood board is a reflection of my colour pallete which I have named 'Marsala meets Aluminium’, the idea behind this story is to communicate a particular trend, I wanted to challenge the stereotypical autumnal colour theme and add a modern twist, adding a zesty mustard and sharp metallic shades. using the pantone website I found the colours ‘Marsala’ and ‘Aluminium’ and found the reflected my palette perfectly.

After creating my colour story, I started to experiment and research brands that could incorporate my palette into their own collections.  I deliberated over Zara and Balmain as I feel they both portray the same slick and sophisticated feel through their garments, however, I found Balmain sometimes use slightly warmer tones, in-fitting with my story.

DESTINATION CHRISTMAS

With my first FCP module titled 'visual awareness',  one of the areas we have looked at in great detail is visual merchandising and brand advertising, whether that be in-store interiors, online campaigns or live shows, as the majority of the day in London was self directed, me and the girls decided to venture towards Bond Street to see the newly placed Christmas shop fronts.

When you live in student accommodation the home comforts are just not there, I've found I have been extremely lacking in the Christmas spirit,  after all, the paper cut-out snowflakes just don't do the job like the smell of your mum making a home made Christmas cake however the synonymous Selfridges window displays definitely gave me the festive feel!

6000 metres of fairy lights and more than 190,000 baubles later, Selfridges unveiled their story telling themed festive display and seeing it in person sent me right back to my childhood.  Each classic story in all of the 23 windows depicted a modern day twist, for example, 'The Ugly Duckling' display is arranged with the focal point being a central mannequin who is sat within a rainbow nest and wears a bespoke feather dress from the SS15 AF Vandervorst which is everything other that ugly!

As I'm a northern girl, getting the chance to go to London (FREE!! may I add) is an opportunity I couldn't miss, as its not on my door step like most of the people I go to university with, I found I still felt the buzz and excitement of seeing the classic big red bus and tube stations just as I did when I went as a child with my family.  There is something about the city that draws me in, I can't decide whether its the constant rush or the diversity within the popularity.

At one point in the day I found myself standing on the tube next to a European women, listening to her playing the ukulele and singing along entertaining all passengers and it wasn't until I was travelling home reminiscing on the days events that it hit me, that is normality in London, weird and wonderful confidence is exuded by all of its inhabitants- and I love it!
